Ralph Ellison (1914-1994), the American writer, as a young author wrote The Invisible Man (at age thirty-eight), an acclaimed semi-autobiographical account of a young African-American intellectual's search for identity. At the age of seventy-two he published a group of essays, titled Going to the Territory.
