It was finally in his seventies that Colonel Harland Sanders (1890-1980) made it big with his "finger lickin good" Kentucky Fried Chicken. By the age of seventy-four, more than six hundred franchises in the United States were selling his chicken. He then sold most of his empire for a substantial sum, and received a seat on the board and a lifetime salary from the new parent company, for whom he continued to be an official ambassador for his famous chicken in commercials and ads right up until his death at age ninety.
